BOOK GRADING (this integrates both hardcovers and paperbacks):
NEW: As new, or as close to current retail condition as possible, or still in shrinkwrap.
VERY FINE: Has a like new appearance (unread), with only occassional and imperceptible mild shelf wear. This condition is outstanding for collecting, the absolute best there is next to a brand new retail copy.
FINE: May have faint imperfections or very mild shelf wear, but still clean, bright and tight overall. An excellent copy, very solid, and highly collectible for all concerned.
VERY GOOD: Has shelf wear and some imperfections to extremities, but still square, tight and relatively clean overall. A nice, ok copy, still worth consideration.
GOOD: Even more imperfections; bumping, creases, rubbing, chipping. etc. A decent copy, worth consideration for completists, but also for general reading purposes.
FAIR: Considerably more imperfections; spine leaning, general wear and soiling to all extremities. A well worn copy, strictly for reading purposes only.
COMIC BOOK GRADING (Comics are graded using CGC's numbered evaluations. Please note that we are not professional comic book graders; all evaluations are simply our interpretation of conditions):
NEAR MINT (9.4 grade): A nearly perfect comic book. Cover shows barely perceptible signs of wear. Spine tight, and cover has only minor loss of luster or printing defects. A beautiful copy.
VERY FINE (8.0 grade): A very nice comic with beginnings of wear. Slight crease and wrinkles at staples, but still a flat, clean issue. Highly attractive, and extremely collectible.
FINE (6.0 grade): Cover is worn but flat and clean with no defacement. Stress lines around the staples and more rounded corners are permitted. A great looking issue at first glance. Collectiblility factor is very solid.
VERY GOOD (4.0 grade): Original gloss may be diminished, and is a well read issue. Minor markings, discolorations, or heavier stress lines around staples. Light creases will exist, with some corner chips and possible light spine rolling. Still very acceptible for most collecting especially for Golden and Silver age comics.
GOOD (2.0): Very worn comic but still fully intact. Creases, minor tears, rolled spine and cover flaking are permissible. Most Golden Age comics often come in this condition.
FAIR (1.0 grade): Has multiple problems, with possible loose pages, but still complete. May have a soiled, slight damaged cover, a badly rolled spine, cover flaking, corners gone, tears, and considerable creases. Tape may be present and is always considered a defect.
